Election Information
The City Secretary's Office is responsible for conducting municipal elections as prescribed by the Election Code of the State of Texas and the City of Southlake's City Charter.
Election Day - May 12, 2012
Notice of filing period (posted on December 30, 2011)
On Saturday, May 12, 2012, qualified registered voters of the City of Southlake will cast their ballot for the purpose of electing a Mayor and City Council member, Place 2. The hours of the polling location(s) on Election Day will be 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Southlake voters must go to their county precinct polling location on Election Day. A listing of Tarrant County and Denton County Election Day polling locations will be located here when they become available.Citizens are encouraged to bring their voter registration cards with them to the polling location.
The City of Southlake is situated in two counties--Denton and Tarrant. Please click on appropriate link to determine if you are registered to vote in Tarrant or Denton County. In order to vote in the May 12, 2012 general election, a citizen must be registered to vote no later than April 12, 2012.
Early Voting by Personal Appearance
April 30 - May 08, 2012
The first day for early voting by personal appearance begins April 30, 2012 and concludes on May 08, 2012. The City of Southlake is situated in two counties--Denton and Tarrant. While Southlake residents may vote at any early voting location, it is imperative that residents go to an early voting location for the county in which they reside. The hours of the polling locations during early voting are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., unless otherwise indicated.

Vote Early by Mail
A registered voter is eligible for early voting by mail if the voter meets at least one of the following criteria:

Out of the country
- The voter will be out of the county of the voter's residence on Election Day and during the hours of voting at the main early voting polling place during the part of the period for early voting by personal appearance remaining after the voter's early voting application is submitted to the city secretary/early voting clerk. If the voter does not submit the application before early voting by personal appearance begins, the voter is ineligible for early voting by mail unless the voter is absent from the county when the application is submitted.

Disability
- The voter has an illness or physical condition that prevents the voter from appearing at the polling place on Election Day.

Age
- The voter is 65 years of age or older on Election Day

Confinement in Jail

The voter is confined in jail at the time the application is submitted:
- serving a misdemeanor sentence for a term that ends on or after Election Day;
- pending trial after denial of bail;
- without bail pending an appeal of a felony conviction; or
- pending trial or appeal on a bailable offense for which release on bail before Election Day is unlikely.

Candidate Filings
Per the Texas Ethics Commission, committees and candidates must file applications and regular finance reports with the City Secretary's Office. Filings for committees and candidates will be uploaded daily at 5:00 p.m.

In order to vote in any election, the Voter Registration Application must be postmarked no later than 30 days prior to the election. Voter Registration Applications may be obtained in Town Hall in the City Secretary's Office or the Library.
