Our Mission

The foundation upon which we are based is the preservation of life and property. Fire suppression, rescue operations, emergency medical services, public education, inspections, and pre-planning are the essential functions provided to improve the quality of life to our customers. We will always seek constant evaluation and improvement through training, teamwork, and innovation. Our commitment to honor, integrity, respect, and devotion are values we use to govern ourselves while at work and home.

Administration

The Administration Division is headed by Chief Mike Starr. The responsibilities of the Administration Division are to direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate the activities and operations of the Fire Services division within the Public Safety Department. For more information, visit the Office of the Fire Chief.

Operations

Fire Operations is headed by Deputy Chief Bryan Thomas.  Bryan manages, supervises, and coordinates operation of the Fire Services division. The responsibility of the Operations Division is to utilize the Department's human resources and apparatus to deliver a wide variety of emergency and non-emergency services.  The Fire Services division is prepared to deliver these services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, under any conditions.

Fire Services Operations also provides fire safety education and information to help protect and enhance the quality of life for citizens in Southlake. Public education is one of the major vehicles that increases community awareness and the department's visibility within the community through fire safety education programs, CPR classes, and our direct participation in community events and safety/health fairs.

Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention Division is headed up by Southlake Fire Marshal David Barnes. The Fire Marshal serves a critical role in the prevention of fires in both commercial and residential areas.  The process of fire prevention involves providing education for the public, reviewing construction plans, conducting inspections during construction, conducting annual inspections on locations known to have hazards, and engaging investigations to determine the cause and origin of fires or related incidents. The fire marshal reviews all commercial plans to ensure compliance with the International Fire Code as it relates to fire safety issues. In addition, the fire marshal reviews residential plans to confirm the installation of fire hydrants within easy reach of the residential structure, proper roadway or drive access to allow emergency equipment to reach the home, and similar requirements.

While prevention of fires and accidents remains the priority of Fire Services, inevitably we will experience a fire. When that happens, the fire marshal holds responsibility for the investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire. This often involves several days of sifting through rubble in search of clues, conducting interviews, collecting evidence, and recreating events in an effort to solve the mystery.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Hazardous Materials

EMS and HazMat services are coordinated  by the EMS/HazMat Lieutenant.  The EMS/Hazmat Lieutenant provides training and education, and insures up-to-date medical and hazmat protocols.  He also supports fire suppression, fire prevention, hazardous materials, emergency medical and other emergency services, and provides supervisory emergency ambulance and fire response services.
