Community Safety Information
The City of Southlake Department of Public Safety offers a wide variety of both crime prevention and educational programs to the community. The following is a list of some of the programs available through Southlake DPS that residents can learn more about and take advantage of. All programs are offered free of charge. - Child Safety Seat Installation - With the new Child Safety Seat law going into effect, there has been some confusion over the new regulations. Southlake DPS has staff who are licensed to assist and demonstrate the correct way to install a Child Passenger Seat.
- Household Hazardous Waste Disposal - The City of Southlake participates in a household hazardous waste disposal event sponsored by the City of Fort Worth called the Crud Cruiser. When the Crud Cruiser comes to town, Southlake residents have the opportunity to dispose of certain types of household hazardous waste.
- **New** Lock-Take-Hide - Vehicle burglary and auto theft, in most cases, are crimes of opportunity that could be easily avoided. A few simple missteps could lead to you becoming a victim. Lock-Take-Hide encourages everyone to take a few extra seconds to safeguard their vehicle.
- Vacation House Watch Program - This program is designed for residents of Southlake when they are out of town for an extended time period. When a homeowner requests a vacation house watch, a police officer checks the residence (at least once per shift) to ensure the premises is secure.
- Parental Assistance Program - If you are a parent concerned that your teen may be using drugs, the Southlake Police are available for you. Upon your request, an officer will meet with you to discuss the issues or come to your home to and assist in identifying possible of drug use.
- Business and Residential Security Survey - A certified Crime Prevention Officer will inspect your business or home, suggesting security modifications as needed. Texas homeowners may be eligible for reduction on their insurance premiums when meeting state inspection criteria.
- Living with Wildlife - These pages and links contain resource information to assist in increasing awareness and education about native wildlife, preventing wildlife-related property damage, and reducing encounters with potentially dangerous animals.
Classes and Training offered by Southlake DPS
- Women's Self Defense Classes - Women's Self-defense training emphasizes situational awareness, and provides simple, intuitive tactics for women to survive an attack.
- Citizen's DPS Volunteer Classes - Southlake DPS volunteer groups are open to residents wanting to experience the inner workings of Southlake Police and Fire Services. Residents may join any of the numerous volunteer programs available through Southlake DPS.
- CPR - CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a combination of rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation) and chest compressions. The City of Southlake Fire Services teaches classes on CPR once or twice a month.
