Recreation Specialist
Job Summary: The purpose of this position is to assist with the Therapeutic Recreation program. This is accomplished by planning and implementation of recreational activities and programs for individuals with mental and physical disabilities. Other duties include assisting in the day-to-day operations of Therapeutic Recreation program, interacting with program participants, developing schedules, ordering supplies and equipment, assisting in promoting events and ensuring the readiness of facilities. Other duties include administrative support and on-site supervision of programs.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Experience in leading youth and adults in various activities in a recreational setting
- Supervision of staff
- Administrative duties (timesheets, ordering supplies, maintain records, incident reports etc.)
- Planning of and coordination of Therapeutic Recreation activities
- Working knowledge of indoor recreational games, crafts, activities, etc.
- Ability to communicate well with participants, parents and other staff
- Ability to actively participate in games
- Ability to drive a 15 passenger and handicap accessible van
Schedule: 15 – 20 hours per week. Programs typically meet on Monday and Tuesday. Must be able to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
Education: High School diploma is required. College coursework is preferred in recreation program management or therapeutic recreation fields.
Certificates & Other Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Texas Drivers License
- Possession of CRP certification (indicate or include with your completed application)
- Possession of First Aid Certification (indicate or include with your completed application)
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
Working Conditions: Applicant must be willing to work in both indoor and outdoor elements
Salary: $13.09 per hour
